“Connections are still made!” That’s how Rick Bryant describes his ongoing relationships with the Brotherhood of Sigma Nu.
He recalls that, “The house had a strong membership and a presence on campus that attracted quality pledge classes. Great mixers with sororities on occasion.”
Rick enjoyed hanging out in the downstairs kitchen and fondly remembers a pledge class road trip to visit Sigma Nu headquarters in Lexington, Virginia. Another standout memory from his pledge class was when they “did a sort of raid one night on the house, with a little rearranging of the furniture.”
Asked about a Sigma Nu tradition he hopes will never go away, he returns to his days as a pledge: “Maintaining and memorizing the detailed info sheets on each brother during our pledge semester. Our older brothers gave good guidance and support, A.J. and Bill Forsyth ‘79 had excellent character.”
Rick majored in Earth Science. About life after college, he says, “After leaving UNC, I worked in a couple of jobs that gave me experience I needed before taking on more responsibility. I lived and worked close to home before moving to a larger city (Charlotte) and then settling into teaching at the secondary level. I currently live in Fayetteville after retiring from the Department of Defense.”
