Sigma Nu had a busy holiday season at the end of 2017…
Holiday Festivities at the House
The month of December in Chapel Hill brought lots of excitement and activity to the brothers of Sigma Nu. Aside from the busyness and stress that final exams provide, December was a great month for the chapter as we held a couple of different events for both brotherhood and social. Prior to the beginning of the December was the annual Christmas Lights brotherhood event, in which the chapter got together to string lights around the house in preparation for the holiday season. The task was no small feat, however upon completion the lights from 109 brightly lit the entirety Fraternity Court. Per usual, our light design was unrivaled by any other fraternity on campus, only reaffirming we all love our house. With the house in great shape, our chapter held a Christmas Cocktail on December 1st, where brothers invited dates to the house for a night of celebration before the ensuing week of finals. The cocktail was a great success, and got the chapter in the Christmas spirit for the days and weeks to come before the conclusion of the Fall semester.
Sigma Nu wins the Intramural Soccer Championship
With final exams testing the strength of our fraternity’s brains, the Sigma Nu intramural soccer team proved success on the field by defeating a rival team of Alpha Tao Omega brothers to capture an elusive Intramural Championship. The team won the title in epic fashion, winning both the semifinal and final in dramatic penalty kicks. A number of Sigma Nu brothers not participating on the team were in attendance at Hooker Field’s to support their friends and cheer the team to victory. After receiving the news of his admission into UNC Dental School earlier in the week, senior Taylor Dameworth kept his good momentum rolling by slotting the winning penalty into the corner of the goal, and thus winning the game. Along with Taylor, the team consisted of two other seniors (Raleigh Armstrong and Naveed Foroudi), six juniors (Austin Griggs, Sam Ingalls, Cohen Dworsky, Brad Trexler, Collin Dworsky, and Josh Cornell), one sophomore (Jack Hensley), and two freshmen (Cole Batchelor and Matt Miller). The bravery and hard work exemplified by the team members served as an inspiration to the entire chapter, and will hopefully spark more success throughout the rest of the intramural season come Spring. Congratulations guys!
