Community Service

  • The Psi chapter prides itself on giving back to the community through our community service. For the spring and fall semesters of 2009 Sigma Nu had over 35 hrs of community service logged per each brother both semesters. In the fall we had 40 hours per brother and were fourth overall in IFC Fraternity community service.

This fall the chapter participated in a number of events that combined our service and philanthropic efforts. In October, the chapter teamed up with a sorority to raise over $1000 for a battle of the bands to support a new playroom in the UNC Childrens hospital. The chapter also teamed up with the Hillsborough Chamber of Commerce for both a charity golf tournament that our candidates helped at and a charity chili cookoff in November.

In the last 2 years, the chapter has dedicated its philanthopic efforts to a Durham woman who raises money for the Cystic Fibrosis foundation. The chapter teamed up with some dorms on campus for the Manning East Block party and sold raffle tickets and food to raise over $500. The chapter presented this check to the woman at a benefit pancake dinner that  they also helped raise over $200 at by helping sell tickets and cook pancakes.

This spring semester the chapter is hoping to get involved with a communtiy service opportunity close to Chapel Hill that it can volunteer with on a regular basis. We look to participate in a habitat build in Orange County as well. Habitat for Humanity is part of Sigma Nu Nationals' helping hand initiative which you can learn more about at Sigma Nu Helping Hand Initiative
